Whitebark Residence

project description

Nestled into a Whitebark pine forest and perched on a ridge overlooking Rock Creek and the Beartooth Mountains, this house was designed to respond to the site’s stunning geological formations. Exposed bedrock emerges from the hillside and bisects the property, presenting a unique opportunity to embed the exterior spaces of the house into the natural landscape. The stone patios are designed to erode into the native bedrock outcrops, and all additional boulders were harvested on site and integrated into the retaining walls. The landscape design incorporates as much of the existing site vegetation as possible.
