The Movement Collective is an urban infill project in Missoula, Montana aimed at rethinking the existing industrial structure. A central focus of the design work was to improve pedestrian connectivity in an automobile dominated part of the city. To achieve this goal, the landscape designs include a “pocket park” and community space in a neighborhood that is generally lacking in public greenspace. Given that sustainability is a priority in this project, rainwater is to be harvested and reused on site, and materials from the demolished building on the adjacent lot may be recycled. This focus on sustainability will complement the health-focused tenants that will occupy the building. The plantings will provide shade and filter stormwater while creating a cohesive color palette with the architectural materials. There is potential for both food truck parking and murals to enliven the outdoor space create a vibrant community hub.
