Rocky Mountain Ranch

project description

Rocky Mountain Ranch sits in the Yellowstone Club Preserve at 8,300 feet and overlooks Big Sky with dramatic views to the Spanish Peaks. The house was carefully sited to capture these views, while retaining the natural topography, minimizing site disturbances. The intent for much of the landscape design was to create a smooth transition from the rustic modern architecture to the exterior design, and further, to the surrounding landscape. To this end, native plant material and low stone walls softly define the exterior spaces. Three green roofs are designed to break up the mass of the house and respond to the adjacent landscape. And finally, large stands of previously logged Lodgepole Pine will be selectively cleared for fire protection and restored with native grasses to mimic the existing meadows.
