The Northfork ranch sits along a winding stretch of the Mussellshell River, offering rich ecology and agricultural potential. The major focus of this multi-phase project was to restore riparian dynamics. First and foremost, this entailed realigning the North Fork of the Musselshell to its original channel location on a portion of the site. The design team then worked to convert the existing channel into a highwater conveyance while enhancing backwater wetland zones in between channels. This recovered spawning channels and upland bird habitat, and allowed for the construction of three new groundwater fishing ponds. As part of the master planning process, Field Studio completed a detailed analysis of the property, documenting the opportunities and constraints along with the owner’s goals and objectives. Food plots have been mapped in conjunction with the other ranch improvements to provide a comprehensive plan that supports the overall vision for the ranch.
