project description
Working on a multi-disciplinary team, Field Studio developed landscape designs for the phased Missoula International Airport (MSO) renovation. We were tasked with envisioning the entry to MSO’s new terminal, bridging the gap between the architecture and the surrounding site. Drawn from architectural elements, a series of board form concrete seat walls slice through native vegetation and stone to create gathering areas for visitors, and function as critical safety and security elements in the landscape. In addition to the entry experience, the landscape designs solve vehicular and pedestrian circulation issues, address parking, and incorporate open spaces. The planting plan invites durable native grasses and trees of regional hillsides into the built environment.
