Missy Velez
Missy Velez is a landscape architect with six years of experience, specializing in large-scale projects from urban parks to private estates. She holds an undergraduate degree from Colgate University in Environmental Studies and a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Virginia.
Growing up on a farm in northern Maryland, Missy was raised to appreciate rural ways of life and deeply values the bonds built between people and place. She is committed to embracing the integrity of project sites, whether they be urban or rural, and approaches each site with a readiness to learn from the land, the project team, and the clients. She believes design has the capacity to deepen and strengthen sense of place, and practices landscape architecture as a framework for intentional stewardship of the land. As such, she views each client relationship as a long-term commitment and takes joy in balancing the changing dynamics of each site and her client’s needs as they evolve over time. Her work is characterized by a meticulous attention to detail, a passion for bringing clients’ visions to life, and most importantly, a sense of humor, which has led to successful collaborations on a variety of high-profile projects both public and private.
When she’s not at the office, Missy can be found playing outside with her wife Kathleen, laughing with friends around a dinner table, or counting stitches on her latest knitting project.
