JY Bagby Ranch

project description

The JY Bagby Ranch lies in the Big Hole Valley, bordering Forest Service land and the Beaverhead Mountains to the west. The Master Plan for this project serves to update existing amenities and to guide future improvements on the property. JY Bagby Ranch is an active cattle ranch. So a large component of the planning process was to study alternatives to the building layout and circulation, ultimately creating a smoother integration with ranch operations. Another element of the scope on this project was to reimagine the entry experience. New ranch entry monuments at the original portal and a new secondary portal tie into updated pasture fencing and mark the stunning approach into the property. The landscape improvements for the main house consist of outdoor dining and gathering terraces, an in-grade hot tub, an event lawn, and a spawning stream. The overall planting concept for this project is to extend the forested groves from adjacent hillsides down to the main house and ranch entrance.
