Charlie Kees
Charlie Kees is a creative force. Principal and co-founder of Field Studio, his award-winning work spans nearly two decades of urban landscapes, ranches, and campus designs. Charlie is a self-described perfectionist who brings an innovative spirit, collaborative philosophy, and supportive leadership to each project. He values his team, partners, and clients as individuals, embracing the unique visions and challenges they bring to the design table, and emphasizing collaboration above all.
Charlie’s craftsmanship and work ethic are rooted in his early years spent working side-by-side with his father, himself a builder and carpenter. These experiences influenced his understanding of how the details flow into the big picture, preference for working with his hands, and deep appreciation for the craftsmen who bring his designs to life.
As a Licensed Landscape Architect and Principal at Field Studio with a Bachelor of Arts in Landscape Architecture, his background in design, hand graphics, and computer-aided design technology allow him to integrate a fresh approach within the framework of feasibility. Passionate about sustainability, Charlie is LEED accredited, and his designs balance site ecology with human interaction and aesthetics.
Charlie is often first to the office during early mornings — and enjoys first tracks on the ski hill as well. Prioritizing his wife Shara and son Eivin, Charlie’s out-of-work hours are spent together, outdoors — on the river, biking, camping, skiing, tinkering, building things at home, and enjoying their family cabin in the Bighorns.
